Oh Deer
Last night I cooked a venison stew.
This is one of our favourite meals as the meat is low fat and I can use the pressure cooker to ensure it is tender and not tough.
I cooked it with sweet potato, carrots, peppers, dates, celery, tomatoes, chilli, cumin and basil.
It was very tender and flavoursome but P decided to open a bottle of fizz - only prosecco as we don't run to champagne on our pensions. That was my undoing. I managed to polish off most of the bottle and am now wondering whether my healthy meal was perhaps undone by the alcohol consumption alongside it!
Dearie dearie me! You are a very naughty pensioner - but the venison stew sounds delightful. I wonder what P stands for - apart from traditional values and full independence for The Isle of Man.
ReplyDeleteWell, he is certainly not as saintly as his namesake
DeleteI've never tried venison! I have another alternative to Prosecco - a sauvignon blanc and moscato blend. It might just be an Australian thing but one house that makes it is Brown Brothers.

That sounds interesting. I'll have to look out for that. We buy Scottish venison. Not sure if you can get it over there. It is similar in texture to beef but a totally different flavour.
DeleteI've only eaten venison once and I didn't like it but your stew sounds delicious.
