Wednesday Again

It comes around pretty quickly these days. Another week gone.

My usual stint at the Hospice this morning and I was quite busy for my 4 hour shift. It is not physically demanding as I am only working with databases and spreadsheets but today was a test of my rapidly diminishing little grey cells as I was asked to work out how to extract a particular set of data and produce a mail merge document from it.

By the time I arrived back home I felt quite drained.

How I used to do this every day in my working life only a few years ago I don't know.

  1. If you are not doing that kind of stuff every day, you lose your momentum and it's hard to keep up. As I think I have said before - good on you for volunteering at the hospice! As the bishop said to the actress - Keep it up ma'am!

  2. I think once we retire our little grey cells seem to fade into obscurity - I have to work hard to recall mine when I need them.

    1. You seem to still have all yours in order! I just felt so tired. I think I shall have to check that my thyroid medication is still doing its job.

  3. I always look back to the last one I did and copy that, but then I've got eveything, I mean everything still filed away. Probably breaks all the data protection rules but mailmerge no problem, even though last time I did it was probably ten years ago.

  4. Sounds like a job that should be a paid job. Things like mail merge always were mentally tiring and when I was temping it would bring on shoulder ache.

    1. The girls in the office had been printing off all the lists from the database and then laboriously typing up the info onto a separate document. I offered to run an extract and download it into a spreadsheet and setup the mail merge from that. My own fault!

    2. Phew, volunteers should not be doing this sort of work so I was puzzled. Thanks for the explanation.

Although I am quite used to talking to myself, any comments on my posts are very welcome, provided they are not abusive. I do reply to them so please check back. It's good to talk (!)
