A Day Out In Old London Town

We arrived yesterday afternoon and had a stroll around the streets as the sun went down.

This morning we walked across the street from our hotel and had breakfast overlooking the Tower of London and Tower Bridge.  I always love that view.

P was very keen to visit the Postal Museum... I know, most of you will now start yawning. We made our way to Mount Pleasant, not far from High Holborn, and found the museum easily enough.  It was very informative.  A lot of interesting information about how our postal system came about and how it evolved.

We then crossed the road to take a ride on the Mail Rail, the little train that used to carry the mail to and from the railway stations and the sorting office via a network of underground tunnels.  Not for the claustrophobic.

A long stroll back along the Thames Path, stopping off at M&S Simply Food to buy pasta salad for our meal this evening.  We were given vouchers for a free drink when we checked into our hotel so we shall have a glass of wine in our room, eat our pasta and watch the lights over the town

As Mr Yorkshire Pudding correctly surmised yesterday, Elfie was a bit upset that he is not coming with us on holiday...

  1. I have a weakness for pillar boxes, red of course.

Just the mention of museum does include a yawn, but once inside (depending on the subject) they are interesting places to visit.

    1. Thank you. We both found it interesting and I learned a lot, plus I got to ride on the little train and beat my claustrophobia!

  2. The pillar boxes are green in Ireland. Super photos. Have a great holiday Jaycee. Check your suitcases for an Elfie stowaway.

  3. You never said that Peregrine was once your postman. As for Naughty Elf's perilous situation, I am afraid that I have already contacted the Douglas branch of the N.S.P.C.E..

    2. Oh yeah, I forgot that The Isle of Man is a self-governing British Crown dependency. Have a lovely time at La Gomorrah.

  5. The Postal Museum sounds fascinating! I have a friend whose husband used to work at Mount Pleasant...

Lovely photos of London sights; they have ice skating at the Tower of London? Who knew?

I don't think Elfie will let you leave him behind somehow...
