And Another One Down

Well, our planned holiday to Bermuda next week has now been cancelled.

I have spent most of the afternoon online trying to deal with the cancellations and requests for refunds etc for all the various flights, hotels and other travel expenses involved.

Some of it we won't get back.  The rest is only a credit for future travel so, if the various airlines etc go out of business in the meantime, then we have lost that.

It is not a small amount of money but, hey ho, if we get through all this madness intact then it will just be another life lesson learned in the end.

We shall be visiting the local supermarket tomorrow to see if there is any food left on the shelves.

It all seems rather surreal at the moment, like something in one of those sci-fi films.

Stay well my friends.

I hope all this is over by the summer and you can use up some of that credit.

    1. It doesn't seem real does it? It is rather frightening to think that so many jobs and livelihoods are now at risk. How will this end?

  2. Sorry to read about your holiday cancellation JayCee. There will be a major recession if this continues.

    1. The holiday is only a disappointment. I am now really worried for the economy in general if this continues to escalate. I hear the pubs in Ireland have to close now????

  3. Very sorry that your Bermuda holiday has been cancelled. I can't help wondering when we will get through this awful thing and what it will all be like on the other side. Surely there will be airlines, hotels and resorts that will not survive. I know I often jest mischievously with you but on this occasion I am unable to think of anything funny to say. Sorry.

    1. I know. It has gone beyond the laughing it off stage now. We are resigned to probably losing the money we have spent but that is nothing compared to all the jobs, and lives, that will be lost.

  4. Someone on tv who seemed knowledgeable said (based on previous firms going down) it is better to re-book for a future trip rather than accept a general credit. That way if company goes bust you are more likely to get money back.

    1. The problem for us is that we booked it during a 50% sale so if we were to rebook now for a later date we would have to cough up the same amount again to make up the difference. Just have to bite the bullet and hope that British Airways stays solvent.

  5. Yes - upsetting for anyone who has a holiday booked- my son and his wife have cancelled their Easter one - her health is poor anyway so they feel it is best to stay home.

    1. Very sensible. It looks increasingly likely that my Easter trip to CenterParcs with my sister's family may also be cancelled.

  6. Oh what a shame, JayCee. We are not going to be able to get to Ireland at Easter as usual, either. Who'd have thunk it, eh?
