Out And About

We thought we should make the most  of  this week's continuing good weather, before the forecast cooler, rainy stuff arrives on Wednesday.

After my long walk yesterday I just felt like a stroll today so, after coffee, we drove the 5 minutes to the supermarket at the edge of Peel and parked the car.  It was a pleasant stroll down onto the promenade with its view of the castle, and a few families distancing on the beach.

We walked along to the footbridge and across the harbour to the causeway out to the castle.  The weather seems to have brought many people out and it was quite busy.

After walking out to the breakwater to look for seals (no luck) we retraced our steps, pausing to take a look at Fenella Beach and the hardy souls swimming.  The carving of Lady Fenella stood proudly at the entrance, surveying the scene.

I popped into the supermarket which was also quite busy and found myself adding a pack of chocolate & hazelnut ice creams into my basket.  Don't know how that happened!

    1. Fenella.....why did spell check change that to feneloa. Who or what on earth is that

    2. She's lovely isn't she? She was the wife of the Celtic god of the sea, Mannanan, who created our little island.

    3. And here I am again having googled feneloa which turns out to be nothing at all. Double checked, yes spell checker did change fenella. Has Google gone mad now too

    4. Spellcheck is a real pain. It changes my words after I have finished a sentence and moved on. I have to remember to keep going back to check it 😡

    5. You could turn spellcheck off. I am sure you spell perfectly anyway Jaycee and don't need it. I like the statue too.

    6. Thanks Rachel. I have turned it off on the laptop but not figured out how to stop it on this tablet. Must try harder!

  7. I guess that Peregrine must have had his club with him if you were looking for seals. They probably spotted him and skedaddled. Trendy people may be into clubbing but seals prefer a more sedate life.

  8. And there I always thought the story (as told by my dad) was that The Irish giant Finn McCool threw a lump of land at a Scottish giant - the earth fell into the Irish Sea and formed Isle of Man - the hole filled with water and formed Lough Neagh!
Lady Fenella looks a bit mournful against that brilliant blue sky.

    1. Cathy, you are right, my apologies. After Finn did his business with the clod of earth the island was later named after Mannanan. How could I have got that wrong when I knew that story !!!

  9. You had me at icecream!! Some lovely pics, Jay (or should I call you by another name,?). I've been twice to your lovely island and never visited the castle - next time eh.
