Stormy Saturday

A bit of a gale overnight and into today meant that the ferries couldn't sail, so no Saturday newspapers in the shops this morning.

We usually spend our Saturdays reading all the supplements and doing the various crosswords. Our favourites are the cryptic and the two general knowledge ones.

P has been out into the garden between showers picking up debris from the winds, not enough to keep him fully occupied.  Luckily I had secretly taken out a subscription for him to Private Eye and the first edition arrived yesterday so at least he has something interesting to read until the weather improves.

My new fabric arrived yesterday too so I am now in the process of trying out a different pattern.  Keeps me amused anyway.

We have just had bacon sandwiches for lunch - a very rare treat - and now the whole house smells of bacon.  As we shall be having a chinese takeaway tonight, I think a strong air freshener will be called for later.

  1. I haven't bought or read a newspaper for years. I get all the information I need from the Internet. Extremely cold here in Ireland but little rain. The plants in pots are desperate for a day of soft rain.

    1. We only buy the Saturday paper because of the various supplements. Like you, we have already read the news online, although the editorials can be quite interesting.

  2. Will you be getting your Chinese from The Wuhan Takeaway? Their chicken chow mein is to die for!

    1. I feel sorry for the owners of our local chinese restaurant. They are very friendly people and received a lot of unwarranted flak over this whole situation. They have only just reopened for takeaways only for now so we are happy to support them. I can recommend the duck if you're interested

  3. I get excited when we are briefly cut off. It's a whole different feeling, like being a castaway with nothing but the clothes on your back. Great imagination I have!!!
We are never completely cut off. There is always a wee boat willing to make the 5 minute journey across a rough bay lol
Bit of a nuisance for you but bacon sarnies and chinese takeaway would help me put up with the inconvenience.
This is June! Hope the winds die down fast

    1. Flaming June is usually wet and windy over here! It is always the same for the TT races each year. We should know what to expect by now 🙄

  4. Never be without some bacon in the freezer. It's a great standby. Very windy here too and it has cooled off considerably this afternoon. A few cooler days in store for us too.

  5. I do not go out on very windy days as my balance is not good even with Percy to hold on to. As for bacon sandwiches - simple to prepare but really is there anything more delicious?

  7. Ok I'm making a quiche Lorraine today and now I'm going to take out more bacon for a butty. Thank you for leading me astray so deliciously!!
