It was a bright, sunny yet very windy morning and we needed our windproof jackets. It was a very pleasant walk up the hill from her house and around the lanes for our hour and a half walk before returning to sit in her garden with our flasks of coffee, and date oaties baked by one of the girls.
Somewhere along the way one of my trainer socks had slipped down at the back and I now have a fresh blister where my shoe had rubbed my heel.
No gain without pain, so it is said.
Sorry to hear about your blister JayCee. I hope you didn't cry. Did you see The Calf of Man on today's walk? Have you ever been over there?
ReplyDeleteThanks YP. We were on the "wrong" side of Port Erin to be able to see the Calf. We have been over there but many years ago. We took the little boat from Port Erin for the choppy trip over with a group from P's athletics club. We had a tour of the Bird Observatory with an interesting talk from the wardens, then walked all around the island, had a picnic then the boat picked us up later that afternon. It was wonderful. Must do it again. Thanks for reminding me!

If you wear decent socks you won't get blisters in the first place! Trainer socks? Dear oh dear!

DeleteI measured my feet and found that I had been wearing the wrong size shoes for years. Since I moved up from size ten to eleven I have never had blisters. Touch wood, scratching head๐.
DeleteThis may sound daft but after I lost weight I seem to have gone down half a shoe size, from 5 to 4.5. I think my shoes are now too big and rub more as a result.
DeleteI usually carry a roll of micropore tape to cover the sensitive area at the slightest hint of soreness. It works so well that sometimes I've found it still stuck there a week later.

DeleteI think the blister have been well covered (no pun intended) already and, in any case, I know precious little about them anyway.
ReplyDeleteI usually get up between 6.30 and 7 in the summer but getting up for our ferry means a 5pm wake. That 90 mins makes a very unwelcome difference.
I am finding it increasingly more difficult to get up early these days, even though it is light so early at this time of year. It is too easy to just turn over and close my eyes again.
DeleteI think it's the thought of company and someone to talk with that Spurs us on to do things we'd rather leave till another time. Sounds like (bar getting the blister) your walk did you good.

Yes, the girls are good company. Makes a refreshing change to tslk to someone else other than the husband!
DeleteYes I like to wake up about 8 - 8.30ish too but only since lockdown before I was always awake by 7am or even earlier. Bad habit's we've developed, JayCee!

DeleteOh those nasty blisters. I hate having to go through that time at the beginning of summer when I go for a walk in Birkies (because they look cool!) and suffer for days after. Fortunately these past two years I've become sensible and wear arch support trainers, regardless of how unsightly I look. Haven't experienced sock slippage yet though.
