Sunday Morning - A Plantation Walk

Four of us met at our usual time this morning but a different location this week, the car park of the MSPCA (Manx Society For The Protection Of Animals).

Our walk took us along the main road and then a turning onto the Archallagan Plantation single lane road. We had originally intended to walk a 2 hour loop around the lanes but one of our party started to feel unwell, so we decided to cut the walk short by half an hour and continued instead through the plantation and back out the other side.

There were quite a lot of people out enjoying the planation paths, walkers and cyclists and families with young children.  The morning was mainly overcast and dull but reasonably warm, around 17C, so pleasant for walking.

Back at the  car park we went into the MSPCA cafĂ© for coffee and cake - walnut cake this week - one large slice cut into four pieces.

A good chat for half an hour and then the drive back home for a late lunch of sourdough bread with cottage cheese and sliced beetroot from the garden.

I may just read for the rest of the afternoon.

  1. I guess the member of your party who claimed she was feeling ill was suffering from a sudden bout of lazyitis. Seriously though, I hope she is feeling better.

    1. Thanks YP, yes she did feel better after a while. Considering she had major surgery a while ago due to cancer she is a darn sight fitter than most of us.

    1. As we started to walk along that path I was struck by the image of those tall trees either side, like walking through a tunnel. I just had to take a photo xxx

  4. I'm glad to see the photos of the walk. Oddly my whole mental impression of the Isle of Man (bearing in mind it was almost 60 years ago when I went) was of no trees. So it's good to see that photo in particular.

    1. How strange - the island has quite a diverse landscape, rugged and rocky in places, lots of agricultural land with fields and hedgerows but also there are lots of trees here.
This short video is interesting if you want to see the different parts of the island from the air...

  8. Looks and sounds like a lovely walk.
I do hope your friend felt much better by the end of the walk.

I have just been reading aboutManx fairies and how you need to speak to them when you visit the islands.

    1. Yes, there is a small bridge on the road to the south. If you don't wave and say hello to the fairies as you cross it you will have bad luck!
