Today started off as another cold and wet grey day so I decided to make a batch of soup for lunch.
Much like Weaver's fridge-bottom soup, I generally chuck in anything that comes to hand, season well with chilli, garlic and herbs, boil it all up and then blitz it with the stick blender. It usually tastes better than that sounds.
Today's soup used the left over broth from the weekend's beef stew as a base, adding some sweet potato and extra garlic. Thanks to Tigger's comment on a recent blog post, I also added some torn up pieces of the mutilated sourdough loaf which soaked into the broth and thickened it up.
It was quite yummy, and there's some left for tomorrow.
You should publish your own cookbook JayCee - working title: "Chuck Anything In". However, I would be reluctant to boil up our fridge bottom drawer as it is made from plastic.
ReplyDeleteLooks like someone has beaten me to it

We always have stew on a Monday now winter is approaching. Good stodgy food is great after a good walk or a day in the polytunnel. I always say: "It's what you need not what you want".
ReplyDeleteYour soup sounds good JayCee.
We enjoy a good, thick soup in the cold weather. Sticks to your ribs!
DeleteYour soup sounds good. It is certainly soup weather here today - it has been a wet day but as I type this at tea time the sun is coming out and there is blue sky. My soup this week is going to be Spicy Red Lentil - I have ordered the few herbs I need and they are coming with my Tesco order in the morning.
ReplyDeleteSpicy Red Lentil soup. Now that's another one for me to add to the list. Thanks!
Delete"Extra" garlic! I wondered why my eyes water when the wind comes from the west.
ReplyDeleteI shall try not to breathe in your direction, Tasker.
DeleteIt is finally cool here for soup. I have two squash sitting on the bench which will make our first batch. I love mixed vege soup. Pureed it is always tasty.
ReplyDeleteI like the sound of that spicy red lentil soup too!
Looking forward to making that one too.
DeleteThat's my "go-to" for lunch, even in the hot weather. I figure I get at least two of my daily vegetable servings in a bowl. Carrot and Lentil is my regular brew but Cauliflower or Curried Butternut Squash are also popular.
ReplyDeleteMmmmm, they sound good. P would not eat the cauliflower soup but he would love the other two.
