DIY

I had my hair cut last week at the local hairdressers.  This time I asked her not to take off too much as it had finally reached the length I prefer and I didn't want it to be too short.

As usual, it looked fine when I left the salon but now when I wash and dry it it just looks like "Lego Hair".

This morning I decided to have a go at "texturising" it (a term I found online) and dug out our very old razor comb that we bought back in the 1980s (similar to this one shown here)

I gingerly hacked away at some of the layers but panicked when I saw how much was being shaved off.  I think it looks OK, but I dread to think what my hairdresser will say when I go back in 5 weeks time.

In the meantime, it has been very foggy here this morning.

Someone has been busy outside our window...

  2. That is a silly thing to do JayCee - especially when you have a husband who I am sure would have loved to participate in role play. He could have been Justin the mincing hairdresser. "And what can I do for you this fine gay day my darling? Textured? No problemo. I will need my pink secateurs. Just a mo my darling!"

    1. I think he would have most likely resembled Lumberjack Larry and shaved off the lot with his trusty chainsaw.

  3. One of the most liberating days of my life was when I realized I could cut my own hair just fine. No more tears ever. It's crazy to have some hairdresser be the boss of our hair.

    1. I am not sure I could do mine on a permanent basis. I think my haidresser will be needed soon!

  4. Hi, I just realised you are back! I usually end up cutting bits off my hair too! I've learned (what did we do before You Tube) how to cut my hubbys hair and so far he's quite happy with it so if he could just learn how to cut mine too it would be good! x

    1. Hi Marksgran! I cut my hubby's hair too, although it looks pretty naff. He refuses to "waste money" on going to the barber!

  5. I used to cut my own hair when I kept it really short. Now that I have it a little longer, I go to the hairdresser but I am never totally happy after I have washed it. Some part always sticks out weirdly, But no one is looking at me so what does it matter!

    1. Ha, yes there is that, especially now that I am of the age where I turn into The Invisible Woman.

  6. My usual hair salon is a scary place as they are ever so casual with masking and other COVID precautions. I have been twice since the pandemic started and am putting off another trip as long as possible!

    1. Oh dear. That doesn't sound like a good experience. Perhaps hats will come back into fashion for us all?

  7. I'm not going to cut my hair myself again. My hairdresser complains like mad about my crooked curls and then chops so much off to even it up I look like a shorn sheep. It's happened twice. No more! I'll let it grow and tie it up

    1. During our Spring lockdown my hair grew too long and I ended up having to use hairbands and clips. Very annoying, so I now have it cut.

  8. I'm just off to the barbers. I might not have much but I'm certainly not doing my own.

    1. As a young woman I had waist length hair and used to trim it myself. It was fairly straightforward then. It is best not to try now unless I want to look like Worzel Gummidge.

I keep meaning to say I'm glad you came back to blogging - I like reading blogs from all sorts of different places

    1. Hi Sue. Thank you. I do read your blog too but I don't usually comment - most of your commenters have already said what I was going to!

  10. Well at least Lego hair should be easy to manage! I am bald on top, but every 6-8 weeks I pay someone to trim around my ears and the back of my neck. My wife is happy to work it into the budget to keep me presentable.
