Following the damage to our drive in the storm earlier this year, the DoI gentlemen have arrived to dig out a trench across the top to divert future floodwater away and into the ditch beside our property boundary.
This has now been going on since last Thursday. Those flashing, orange lights on top of the cones look quite festive at night.
I managed to manoeuvre the car out between the cones on Friday morning to get to my volunteering shift but P had to reverse it back in for me when I got home. It involves a sort of S shaped wiggle to get through and although it was OK going forwards, my poor female brain just couldn't manage it backwards!
Anyway, the cones (big, heavy ones) and the half-covered trench are still there today. A large sack of gravel has just been dropped off too, so I imagine that is to reinstate some of the washed away patches on the drive. The workmen are nowhere to be seen, yet.
I may not bother going shopping tomorrow.
It must be their tea break.
ReplyDeleteI think morning tea merged with breakfast and elevenses. Now it must be lunch break.
DeleteOh, my grandsons would love to see that. They just love "excavators" of all sorts!
ReplyDeleteHa, big boys' toys!
DeleteWell, a start augurs well.
ReplyDeleteThey did arrive around lunchtime and have done some more digging. The trench is now wider and deeper!
DeleteWe still have an obstacle course to tackle if we want to get in and out using the car. Luckily P's spatial awareness is much better than mine.
Hope they sort out your driveway very soon. I can understand exactly how awkward the backing is. I zigzag all over the road. Heaven help me if I have to back onto the car ferry
ReplyDeleteIt's very embarassing, especially with a group of manly types standing around watching and laughing.
DeleteDid you brew up for them JayCee?
ReplyDeleteI was going to offer but they disappeared! I will try to catch them tomorrow and offer a cup of tea. We have chocolate biscuits too!!!
DeleteI would probably have difficulty manoeuvering between the cones ..... by the time I managed it, it would probably be time to go out again !!! Still, at least you are getting it sorted. We have been waiting for the plumber to put another garden hose in the garden. He said he has pencilled us in for tomorrow but I'm not holding my breath !! XXXX
ReplyDeletePlumbers are as valuable as gold dust. Don't tell him off xxx
DeleteThe workmen are probably nowhere to be seen because they are attending counselling sessions. Digging trenches and dealing with difficult people can be extremely stressful - on a par with governing a small country or captaining an aircraft carrier.
ReplyDeleteI know! I should have offered them tea!!!
DeleteWhen CAA arrived to give me a boost the other day they scolded me for not backing up my driveway. Easier said than done!
ReplyDeleteI know. Ours is on a slope and has a sharp bend right at the top which makes it tricky.
