Is It Tuesday Already?

This past week seems to have whizzed along too quickly.  The turmoil of planning and arranging the house sale has played havoc with my sleep patterns and I have had more nights awake than asleep.  I have been getting up around 2 a.m. and just sitting on the sofa in the dark looking out at the lights down by the castle and the harbour. Too tired to make tea or read.  I doze off now and then but fall into a deep sleep some time after 5 a.m.  I have been thinking of buying some over the counter medication from the pharmacy to see if that helps. Does anyone have any suggestions?

Today we drove up to Ramsey to meet friends for coffee in the park. Whilst there we called in to the Park Hotel and have booked a one night staycation to celebrate P's 70th birthday in early January.  We are hoping some of our friends will come along too - separate rooms of course!

It was a very grey day and the light was poor but I still took a photo of the lake as it was unusually calm with the reflections in the water clearer than usual. The wind usually whips up wavelets and ripples.

  1. Gosh that’s beautiful! I have to drive a bit to get to a lake, but since we moved here, it seems shorter than it did right after we left our in town condo.
I have tried Trazadone, it works for me, and doesn’t leave me logy in the morning. My sympathy, I am somewhat of an insomniac myself.

  2. Sorry you are having trouble sleeping, JayCee. A nurse in a hospital once told me not to worry about the hours you sleep each day. He said look at your total for the week and he said you often see it evens out. Too little some nights is balanced out by longer sleeping on other days. He claimed your total each week will be about the same. It comforted and calmed me at the time.

    1. I just feel so drained after a restless night that I can't seem to concentrate or get anything done.

  3. I read this and thought "I didn't know you were moving house." Went back a few posts that I've missed and discovered what's happening. Then I read who was buying it and thought how much extra stress that has the potential to cause. "Good luck" is the best that I can say.

    1. Graham, my life is such an exciting roller coaster that if you blink you miss the best bits.
The house sale situation is an interesting one. I have never conducted a private sale before without the "assistance" of an agent.

  4. What a beautiful view. I often have sleepless nights. My daughter didn't sleep through the night til she was 8 years old. I was prescribed amitriptyline and I still take half a tablet each night to keep me asleep. I have tried things like Nytol and lavender, but they don't seem to work.

    1. Oh, I was going to try Nytol. Perhaps I should ask my pharmacist for advice. I don't want to bother the GP as they are so busy.

  5. Terrible when you can't sleep at night.
Hope the house business finishes quickly.

    1. Well, we have accepted an offer, just waiting for the survey report. If all goes ahead without a hitch(???) we may be homeless in the New Year!

  7. What a wonderful photograph ... you are so lucky to live in such a beautiful place. Re sleep, I'm afraid I haven't got anything to say that will help much .... I am fortunate that I fall asleep anyhow anywhere 😂 It's in my genes ..... we could be talking to our Dad one minute and the next, he would be asleep !!!! He would tell us that he had just been resting his eyes ! I am guessing it's only the stress of the house move that is interupting your sleep ? Have you tried the This Works products ? I've heard they are good and all natural. They have an abundance of products including pillow sprays and bath products. I always think its best to start with something natural before resorting to drugs but then, what do I know ! I hope that sleep comes to you soon. XXXX

    1. Ooh, thanks Jackie. I hadn't heard of This Works. I may have to order it online as I'm not sure if it is stocked over here anywhere. Thanks for the tip.

  9. I'm a fellow insomniac, and I listen to LBC and BBC Radio 4 extra all night. I have a mono earpiece connected to my internet radio. Unfortunately the interesting programmes make me sleep, and the boring ones keep me awake.

    1. I was wondering about trying one of those white noise things that people use for tinnitus. I shall have to investigate.

  10. Try bedtime yoga (google or search you tube) and valerian tea? Stress and sleeplessness end up being a feedback loop until you are stressing over the sleeplessness. I hope you manage to unwind it and climb back to something normal real quick.

    1. Thanks Mr T. I may try the tea - not supple enough for yoga!

    1. Oh yes, Dave. We shall be staying here, just nearer to town and walking distance to shops and the GP!

  12. Makes perfect sense. I have met a few people this year who want to be near some amenities and within walking distance of a town or village. Good luck with your house search.

  13. Sorry to hear that thoughts about the house move are disturbing your sleep. I don't really have any suggestions but physical exercise during the day always helps good sleep to happen. Perhaps you should take up wrestling or join Paul on regular runs to the summit of Snaefell.

  14. Judy over at Patchworktimes.com mentioned bay leaf tea as something that will put people to sleep. She found out when she put three bay leaves in a boiling pot of gumbo (she's from Louisiana) and a friend put in three or four more. The six adults who then at the gumbo all ended up falling asleep right where they were that afternoon, sleeping for an hour at least. I'd never heard that bay leaf tea could make you sleepy. Good Luck!
