Christmas Day was very quiet with just the two of us.
We had smoked salmon with scrambled egg on toast for breakfast then, after a suitable pause, P went out for a 6 mile run. After his return and a shower we had morning coffee. and opened our presents - one each. P said that he had no idea what to buy me so had gone into Peel at the last minute and bought me a pair of "granny" slippers in the little shop on the corner. Unfortunately he didn't know the correct size so they are too small. I shall have to exchange them after Christmas.
I cooked a Christmas dinner for two - roast chicken instead of turkey, with home made pork and chestnut stuffing, pigs in blankets, yorkshire pudding, roast potatoes, honey roast parsnips and carrots and sprouts (which P detests so I had them all to myself).
I felt in need of some exercise after all that so after loading the dishwasher we went for a short stroll along the lane. It was very cold with a biting wind but lovely nonetheless.
When we got back, we had our dessert. As neither of us eat Christmas pudding, we had a Belgian chocolate, melt in the middle chocolate sponge pudding. Oh God, how I wish I hadn't eaten that. I still feel full now.
It will be another quiet day for us on Boxing Day but we shall be going to our friends' house for supper in the evening. Unfortunately, there is a storm forecast for tomorrow so I expect it will be quite a wild drive there and back.
Hope everyone had a wonderful day.
We were on our own too but we had what’s app and zoom with our children and grandchildren throughout the day but it is not the same as being with them.
ReplyDeleteMy sister messaged me and I saw photos of her grandchildren which was lovely. They were all apart from each other and I think they felt quite sad but put on a brave face for the children.
DeleteThat sounds like an almost perfect day albeit not very Christmassy. All the best in the New Year to you both.
ReplyDeleteWe are not very good at doing Christmas!
DeleteMany ladies look forward to having Yorkshire Pudding on Christmas Day. Not all are blessed.
ReplyDeleteYes, fine for an occasional treat but not something you want every day.
DeleteAn excellent breakfast and Xmas meal! Everything sounds perfect to me.
ReplyDeleteEnjoy your Boxing Day
Thanks Linda. If we ate like that every day I would soon be the size of a house! Hope your day was good x
DeleteWe're spending all Christmas on our own. I'd rather meet up with people but since it's unavoidable I'm finding it quite enjoyable - having less to do means there's a bit more space to chill out in.
ReplyDeleteThat looks a nice ridge to walk or run along!
Yes, it is a lovely walk or run along there, when there is no traffic!
DeleteEnjoy chilling out.
Nice Christmas blog post JayCee. Hope storm Bella soon moves away.
ReplyDeleteThanks Dave.
DeleteBella is working herself up to be a real ripsnorter by tonight!
I think most people’s Christmas was quiet this year J ..... we usually have our children and grandchildren with us but it was just the two of us but, our turkey was AMAZING ! We went for a walk but cut it a bit short as it was freezing and was far better to be in the warm with a drink ! XXXX
DeleteI know what you mean. Our walk was very short too! xxx
DeleteAnd mine was even quieter but jolly good all the same.
ReplyDeleteThat's good to hear Rachel. I prefer quiet and solitude these days.
DeleteSounds like you made a delicious meal. Can't say I was quite so ambitious with our meal--as in, not at all.
ReplyDeleteWe had the nasty weather (38mm rain and high winds) you are getting now on Christmas Eve--at the start it was 14.4c, but by Christmas evening temp had dropped to -5.5 and we ended up with an unexpected 25mm of snowfall. First Christmas Day snowfall in decades. Stay safe--and warm.
Christmas Day snow sounds magical. Hope you were snug and warm.
DeleteWe had a lovely day. Mum enjoyed her lunch with us then our daughter and her family arrived for a short visit then we had a whatsapp video conversation with our son and his partner in Australia. We had chicken thighs on a plate on our laps in front of the telly for dinner and I loved every minute! Today we're all sitting about doing very little, storm Bella is in the throes here just now, its very wet and windy and generally just miserable! However snow if forecast tonight so that might cheer us up! Enjoy tonight, but be careful out there it's pretty wild. xx
ReplyDeleteSounds like you had a good day.
DeleteI am really not looking forward to going out in that storm tonight but our friends have gone to so much trouble we don't want to disappoint them. Hoping no trees are down to block the road!
Well I am very impressed by the 6 mile run. And P is worried about the garden being too much?!
ReplyDeleteHis runs are usually over in half an hour or so but the garden tasks last for days!
DeleteIt was a wonderful day. I'm glad yours was as well.
ReplyDeleteI have just read your post. It did sound like a perfect day for you Debby.
DeleteOur Christmas was quiet, but the couple of days following were anything but with our family coming in. We’ve all been in each other’s bubble since May, and we monitor each other’s comings and goings. Not risk free, but controlled risk.
ReplyDeleteThat is good to hear. I hope you can all enjoy a wonderful New Year celebration together too.
DeleteYou must be a very forbearing woman. If my OH did what yours did I'd be pretty furious and would let him know.
ReplyDeleteAt least you bought each other one each so there was equity. I'm feeling miffed because I bought mine 5 in total and spend quite a bit; he bought 3 and spent half of what I did. I know it's the thought that counts but it rankles!
Never mind, I have made up my mind that next year I will ensure I buy him exactly what he bought me this year and no more!
xxx
Oh Vronni, I did try very hard to remind myself that Christmas is not about what people buy you but, I did wish that just a little more thought could have gone into his choice.
DeleteEvery year he says exactly the same thing "We're not bothering with presents this year are we?" and every year I tell him, yes we are!
