Worry

I had a message from my sister this evening to tell me that my lovely niece had been admitted to hospital this morning.

It seems that she has been experiencing chest pains  on and off recently and today tests showed increased levels of D-Dimer. I had never heard of this so obviously consulted Professor Google.

I do not advise consulting Professor G.  He scares the hell out of you.  I was ready to anticipate her imminent demise.

It transpires that, after a COVID test, blood tests, X-Rays and MRI scans she was pronounced OK to be discharged and is awaiting collection by her anxious husband to take her home to her two small children.

I am still unsure as to the reason behind the original test results and hope that she really is well enough to be sent home but we should trust the judgement of the hospital staff.

I have never had children of my own  but my niece is the closest I have have ever had to a daughter and I would be devastated if anything should happen to her.  

My sister and I are really thankful tonight that she is safe and well for now.

    Sorry to hear about your niece's recent health episode. Like you, I don't really understand this talk of "D-Dimer". Never heard of it before but Professor Google told me that it has something to do with the breaking down of blood clots. I hope it was all a "one off" that she can now put behind her.

      Yes. Given how busy the hospitals are over there at the moment she was very fortunate to have immediate treatment.

    I do hope she's OK. My oldest had Covid, and luckily survived. It took him about a month to totally return to full health.

    I've had a couple of d dimer tests when I had a suspected blood clot in my calf.Fortunately it turned out to be muscle pain. We are all on high alert at the moment. Little wonder hope your niece is home and back with her family soon x

      Thanks Addy. It seems her D Dimer levels have returned to normal but she will be retested in a week, just to be sure. xx

    Oh JC .... what a frightening time for you all. So pleased that she is going home and things seem OK & that they will be keeping an eye on her. Lots of wine needs to be drunk later. !!! XXXX

    I'm sure they will keep an eye on her now. Tom has suffered from blood clots for years and is on warfarin for life.

    I suspect the Google computer is wondering why there has been a sudden spike in people Googling D-Dimer. I certainly don't understand all the implications. Let's hope that she is well and the chest pains do not return.

      Yes, although I looked on several websites I still don't quite understand it. Hopefully she is OK now.

    Thank goodness your niece is back home. It's even worse for you being faraway . Hopefully all those tests and scans will tell her what it was all about.

      I don't think they knew what caused it but I think she will have more tests again later to make sure it has not recurred.

    Like others, good to hear that she was treated and is now home. And that they will follow up with further testing. Hard to be so far away when there are health scares. Hoping for a good outcome for your niece. And peace of mind for all of her family.

    Gosh that was a worry. I do think though that our bodies get out of kilter every now and again so hopefully thats all it was and she'll be fine. xx
