Running Out Of Steam

Since my last post when our island had just lifted lockdown restrictions,  five new cases were discovered three days later.

We are not to suffer any further lockdowns now though so we must all take whatever precautions we feel comfortable with in order to protect ourselves.

On the day the new cases were announced, P and I had travelled  by bus into Douglas to meet our Advocate regarding the house move.   (click here for information about IOM advocates).  We also visited the Costa Coffee shop at the Sea Terminal while we waited for our bus home.  Nobody, including us, was wearing a mask and we didn't find out about the new, unexpected cases until we reached home.

There are now plans afoot to allow visitors back to the island at the end of June so that will see an influx of new cases then.

I shall feel more confident being out and about once I have had my second jab but until then  because of my asthma and breathing problems   I shall remain cautious.

This week I made a start on clearing out stuff  accumulated over the past thirty years.

Now I am running out of steam.

  1. 30 years! When I contemplate what we can collect in less than 1/3 of that I don't envy you. Try the Mediterranean Diet for a day that might but some fuel in the tank....

    1. I don't want to have to do it again Briony. I thought it would be easier before I was too old to cope but I misjudged my timing!

  4. Did you find any tartan paint, a long stand or any sky hooks?

    1. No but I did find a left handed screwdriver and a skirting board ladder.

  5. Anyone who has moved house as they got older knows only too well that feeling of running out of steam. Gently does it - lots of breaks and a stiff drink if all else fails.

  6. I've had my jabs but I still wear a mask when I am around others. We can still get it and spread it is what I have been told so I am careful.
Cleaning out a home is an awful job - I would need a huge dumpster outside my home to get rid of all of the crap I could find!
Good luck but take it slow!

  7. I feel your pain (and lack of energy). After 28 years here, about to have two bathrooms remodeled and all new doors replaced (interior and exterior, including all the closets/wardrobes). I just need to find the energy to move all the stuff around while the work is being done. I should just chuck a lot of it out now. It's not like I'm getting any younger--or ever want to do this again. :) Good luck!

    1. Such a lot of stuff that hasn't seen the light of day for decades is all now going to the recycling centre.
Why on earth did I keep my old wedding photos from my failed first marriage back in 1976?

  9. Sorry about the new cases. We are completely locked down here in Ontario. I would suggest carrying your masks with you and wearing them on public transport until we are truly rid of this nastiness. Hugs.

  10. We are moving house next Tuesday.Only got the final decision today. How we can have so much “stuff” I do not know.We have had a big clear out but still have lots.I suspect there will be many boxes that never get opened in the new place. There are so many people you have to inform of a new address.
Roll on Tuesday evening. We are having tea at our daughter’s who with her OH and our two granddaughters will only be a ten minute walk away which is why we are going.
    Good luck with your move.Barbarax

Hope the move goes well. Time to relax afterwards I should think.

  11. I read somewhere that IOM is pretty high on the list of places with a high percentage of vaccinations, so you should be OK.

  12. I trust that the Advocate welcomed you with beakers of Advocaat. Trouble is that this show of hospitality will surely be added to your final bill.

  13. I think we are all running out of steam and don't want to play this game any more. We shall have to learn to live with Covid for good it seems. There's no way it's going away any time soon.
