This And That

Never a dull moment here at JayCee Towers (she says with tongue firmly in cheek).

On Friday I called the GP surgery and was asked to pop in so that they could take a look at my arm as the red patch had spread quite considerably.  It appears that it is most likely just a delayed immune response to the vaccination - two weeks instead of the more usual couple of days.  So that's alright then.

Saturday was our wedding anniversary. We didn't do anything exciting, as we are still in our Lockdown number three, however our local hostelry offers free home delivery on meals from their usual menu so we had two enormous meals delivered to our door by a charming lady.  There was so much food that I felt as though I was going to explode afterwards. I should have kept some for leftovers but I was too greedy.

Sunday morning was glorious. Blue sky and sunshine, although a sharp frost.  I met the "girls" for a reasonably social-distanced walk, all masked up of course.  We walked for an hour and a half along the heritage railway track into Peel and got takeaway coffees to drink on the Promenade in the sun.

I was feeling a little tired by now so, instead of the hour and a half walk back, I sent a text message to P and asked him to drive out and collect me.  It should only take him five minutes so I strolled down to the far end of the Prom to wait there.  Suddenly, the sky darkened and it began to hail quite steadily.  P still hadn't arrived and I was getting pelted by hailstones so I put up my hood and began to walk up the hill to the coast road. When he eventually pulled up beside me he said that he had stopped by his friend's house on the way to drop off a magazine and they got chatting.  He only decided to carry on his way to pick me up when it started to hail!

The rest of Sunday was spent cleaning and tidying as our agent had booked a socially distanced house viewing for this morning (Monday).

The viewing was a complicated arrangement involving lots of masks, gloves, sanitiser and everyone having to be in separate rooms. P and I were not allowed to be in the house at the same time as the viewing so we went to do our weekly shop until they had finished.  It seems to have been successful, just need a survey report (again) so keeping fingers crossed for a sale this time.

My arm is feeling a little better today. The large, vivid red patch is now a just a delicate shade of pink and the soreness is receding.  I hope it doesn't do the same after the second vaccination!  At least I shall be prepared for it next time.

Off now to sit in the afternoon sunshine before tonight's wintry showers arrive.

  3. At least you know your immune system can be woken up or kicked into life eventually (maybe it stopped for a chat en route as well)

  4. I heard a doctor on the radio speaking about those of us who get a strong reaction - he said it shows our immune system is working well. So let's believe him!

  5. That is the worst part about selling a home - having to keep clean for the showings! Hope third times a charm and you get good news! Glad your arm is clearing up. I have a bruise where my 2nd dose went in - it is a 12-day-old bruise now but it doesn't hurt at all. Just there. :)

I hope your bruise goes away soon. Lucky it doesn't hurt.

  6. Happy wedding anniversary to you both. You’ve been pretty busy ... good to hear that your arm is improving. I’ve had both jabs now without any side effects .... the nurse told me that some get side effects, some don’t ... everyone is different. I really hydrated before and after mine but I don’t know if it made any difference ( &, I did stop drinking alcohol for a week before and two weeks after !! XXXX

  7. What a beautiful walk.We stayed in Peel the first time we went to the IOM. I had a big red weal on my arm where the injection went in but it was the itching that drove me mad. After 8 days I was going to ring the surgery the next morning but it had died down although it still itched on and off for another week. The red mark lasted ages. I wasn't ill though. I hope your house sells soon.

    1. The side effects seem to vary quite a bit don't they? I had looked up the information online but nothing mentioned such a long time before developing any reaction.
I hope you enjoyed your visit to IOM and Peel. You must come back again!

  8. Happy Wedding Anniversary! I hear you on not saving any for later; I always plan to do it but rarely do...

Glad to hear the sore arm and rash was nothing sinister; how surprising after two weeks!

  9. We were told to expect a stronger reaction to the second dose so fingers crossed you don't suffer more next time.

  10. Oh it is so long since I was in Peel - happy memories. I too am moving house - to live permanently by the sea again. I already own the place and yet it is soooo...exhausting to organise, especially with all the restrictions. Here's to bright summer!

  11. Wow I’m glad you didn’t get too terribly pelted by the hail. That stuff can hurt! I had my second shot today and some 6 hours later I’m sitting outside enjoying a beer. So if side effects come, at least I’ll feel relaxed! (Hoping for a successful sale for you this time).

  12. I don't know how many vaccinations I've had in my lifetime, but several. I've never previously had any complications, known the manufacturers name, or received such detailed information about possible effects. These jabs are quite special, aren't they!

    1. I suppose because they were developed so quickly there was limited knowledge about side effects so this is all data gathering I expect.

  13. Did you ever see Monty Python's "The Meaning of Life"? In this film there is a character called Mr Creosote played by Terry Jones. He eats so much that he really does explode!

By the way if I were you I would sack your present chauffeur. Stopping off for a chat with someone when dropping off a girlie magazine is not on when you are summoned to service by her ladyship.

    1. Oh yes. Mr Creosote. "Just one teeny little mint".
My chauffeur was gently chastised but his response was "Walk back then".

I’m pleased you’ve got peace of mind now that you know this is a known after effect. I’m waiting to hear if I can have my second, I’ve had a few of the things listed as known after effects but they could be just coincidence. 🤞😤.
