Nail Biting

The lease on our rental bungalow started today so we had to go into Douglas to collect the keys before driving up to Ramsey to unload a carful of boxes.

Exchange of contracts on our house sale was also due today and I kept checking my email inbox every 5 minutes to see if it had happened.  Although we were 99% sure it would all go through OK there was still that tiny seed of doubt.  What if they had a last minute change of heart?  What if they suddenly revised their offer? What if we were left with an unsold house and a 12 month commitment to this rental?

Finally, at 4 p.m. the email arrived confirming exchange of contracts has taken place, with final completion next Tuesday.  At least we have the weekend to finish packing and transporting all our worldly goods (and trying to squeeze them into a much smaller house).

Perhaps I shall be able to sleep better tonight.

  1. Hurray! It's all over now and you can begin to relax and enjoy your rental property. I've never sold a house before but I know it's a very stressful experience from the experience of others.

    1. We just need to look for somewhere to buy now and hope that one doesn't fall through at the last minute like the previous one. XX

  3. I'm not sure how you cope with it all, just paying the water rates is enough for me, lol

    1. Yes, we are looking at it as a long holiday and shall enjoy it. As Rachel says, below, we can take our time looking for something else now.

  5. Good news JayCee and nice to have a couple of days to move your stuff. Then it is a much more leisurely search for a house while in your temporary home. If something turns up quickly then so be it!

  11. Reading about all the shenanigans that have gone on during the house sales/purchases of yourself and Sue (in Suffolk) has put me off moving……and I don’t even live in the UK.😊

Hopefully the ‘accomodation gods’ will smile on you over the next few months

  13. Congratulations. Shame about having to make a double move but call it life experience, and it will be nice to have leisure to go looking for the forever home.

    1. I expect most of our belongings will remain in the boxes until next time. Save me re-packing.

  14. I bet you'll have a lot of unpacked boxes, and when you eventually do unpack them it will be surprise after surprise (unless you count amongst those ultra-organised people who catalogue everything).

  16. That's a lovely photo of you JayCee. I like your stylish light blue top but I never realised that you had such enormous green eyes. They are like inviting moorland pools that reflect the sky. Thanks for the housing update. It looks like it is all coming together at last.

  17. Whew! Had to have been a nerve-wracking day. May the rest of the move go seamlessly. After that, take a break for a while, rest up, drink (as you said above) some cheap fizz, before you go house hunting in earnest.

  19. I've said it before, house moving is so stressful. I'm glad you are halfway there now ie one sold, one still to be bought. Hope the move into temporary accommodation goes smoothly.
