Just a short post today.
We drove an hour from home here in Ramsey at the northern end of the island down to Castletown in the south, as we had arranged to meet up with friends for coffee.
It was a lovely sunny day and we enjoyed catching up with the couple as we haven't seen them for a few years .
We paused to admire the house where Captain John Quilliam lived.
He served as first lieutenant on HMS Victory at the Battle of Trafalgar. He was a farmer's son who was impressed into the Royal Navy in 1794
We also strolled past the Old Grammar School. It was built around 1200AD as the first church for the settlement that grew up around Castle Rushen, later becoming a school for boys. It is the oldest roofed structure still standing on the Isle of Man today.
