Little Owl

We met this wee fella yesterday at the Farmers' Market.  Two of the wardens from the Wildlife Park brought this Little Owl and a Spectacled Owl along for a day out and they were attracting quite a crowd.

This one is only the size of a large blackbird and was very still and quiet. His colleague  being much larger and rowdier had a bigger crowd around him so I wasn't able to get any photos.

Beautiful creatures.

  1. We used to get Little Owls on the farm - frequently seen in the daytime and, as you say, always quiet. Beautiful creatures.

  2. "I want my mummy," said Bill. "Maybe a fox has got her," said Sarah.

  3. Perhaps the other owl was more popular because it was wearing spectacles.

  5. F just went all sort of 'aaaahhh cute'. I, the Tigger, am not a fan of raptors (even tiny ones) - they look at you like you are their next meal. xxx Mr T

    1. This one would be too small for you to worry about Mr T.

  6. They are absolutely delightful. I would be there in the crowd goggling them too.

    1. It's not often you get to see an owl up close without it flying away.

  7. I love a good look at the birds we normally do not get a good look at!

    1. Yep. Even in a wildlife reserve they are usually well hidden away in a large enclosure.

  8. Owls of any size are awesome, but this tiny guy is really special!
I'm wondering just how loud his hoot would be!

  9. Owls are lovely, I love seeing them close up like this. Never seen a wild one. It's quite an unusual colour is it not? I always thought they'd be coloured to blend in, this little owl would stand out in a crowd!

    1. The different owl species are all of varied colours. This one would blend in well in our woodlands.

  10. We have Little Owls here, and they swoop about at night. I wouldn't have known what they were had a friend not pointed them out.

    1. There are Little Owls living wild in parts of the island but I had not been lucky enough to see any of them.

  11. We have owls here on Lewis but I rarely see them. I've just read your huge variety of posts since my absence and see that you are now on course to be in your new home before Christmas. Good luck. I look forward to seeing more.

    2. I didn't have to, JayCee, I did it because I love your posts and wanted to keep up to date. I can't say the same for every blog.
