Stop Me From Buying More

Now that I have our new home in my sights I am keen to find some suitable items to furnish it.

Last week we bought this coffee table in the little second hand emporium around the corner ...

On our way to buy the newspaper this morning P said he wanted to take a look in the window to see what was new. I saw a rather lovely carved oak chest and a bookcase and suggested that they would go well in the new house. P just rolled his eyes and pointed out that we were not yet even close to exchanging contracts so there would be no point in buying anything yet.

I pouted and sulked and trotted off in a huff.

Why show me pretty things and then say I can't have them!

  1. I love the coffee table, and you make a very valid point!

Is it a big space? I am excited to see what you do with it.

    1. The space is bigger than we have now and we gave away a lot of our furniture when we sold our old house so there is plenty of scope to get some pretty things!.

    1. Oh Ellen, we have no idea yet of a moving date or even if the purchase will complete successfully. I am just very impatient!

  4. The table is terrific. As for the other things, pouting was a completely reasonable response. I like Linda's idea.

  6. Well, if you NEED the furniture in the future then buy it when you see it or you can be sure that when you DO want it, it will have sold, for sure!

We have a big coffee table rather like that - not our choice but we are looking after it for middle daughter as it won't fit in her current flat.

  7. That was my argument but, as he says, we don't yet know if we will get the house so no point in buying anything. Huh....
Seems like we have similar tastes to your daughter.

  8. That's gorgeous. Just the sort of furniture I'd love to own if we ever again get the sort of home to put it in. As for the nice things you've had to postpone - just think of all the even nicer things out there just waiting to be discovered when the time is right. Collect it gradually and build up a collection of not just furniture but stories of discoveries,

  9. I would wait until you are in and get the feel for the place and exactly what you do want/need. Much more fun too.

  11. Love the table JayCee. It's got an ecclesiastical look to it. Buy what you like and enjoy your time collecting. I'm never going to stop.

    1. Thanks Dave. I thought the same about the table.
I have also got my eye on a reclaimed church pew but it is rather large, and not cheap....

  12. Lol from the heading I thought you were on an ice cream binge - Tommy Walls type (stop me and buy one”
I’d buy them now to enjoy now - no point in worrying about ‘what might not happen’……

  13. You should have stomped your feet and yelled, "It's not fair!" Lord Peregrine has far too much common sense. It's not healthy.
