Comeuppence

Yes, after poking fun at P's  exaggerated common cold symptoms, I then caught his pesky bug and suffered all over the weekend. Generally a common cold for me is just the usual sneezing and sniffles with a sore throat and mild headache . This time it seemed much worse and I ended up spending the whole of Sunday in bed, mostly asleep.  I don't know if this was a particularly nasty cold virus or whether my symptoms could have been combined with a reaction to my first ever flu jab on Tuesday.

As Tasker commented in my previous post  there are some medical opinions that suggest that a male's reaction to such viruses is worse due to the lack of female sex hormones which apparently offer more protection.  Perhaps as I am now way past child bearing age  my hormone levels no longer offer me the same level of protection.

Whatever the reason, it knocked me sideways and I certainly don't want to catch anything else.

    1. Thanks Ellen. I feel better today. Yesterday was horrid xx
Mr P has gone to help a friend paint his fence so he has bounced back quickly!

  3. Oh dear, get well soon both of you. Tam came back from the Green Man Festival with a stonker and was in bed most of the next week - apparently it's the "really nasty" one which is doing the rounds across the country. If there are still any elderberries to pick where you are, gather as many as you can to make Elderberry Rob (recipes on the Internet). It's great for fighting colds and flu.

  4. I too had read that colds (and flu) are much worse this year as masks and self-distancing last year had made these viruses more virulent this year.

    1. Yez thanks Dave. Almost back to normal today.
I have gone off alcohol lately. It just doesn't seem to taste the same anymore. I have been drinking ginger beer, which hopefully has some medicinal qualities ๐Ÿค”

  7. Daughter and partner had something similar a few weeks back and today the deputy manager at the shop told me she had exactly what you described and was off sick for 3 days last week. I hope I don't get it!

  8. I don't wish to alarm you JayCee but a particularly nasty virus has been going around. It's called CORVID-90 or something like that and it can knock sufferers for six.

    1. That one probably scores higher than a six.

  9. I am convinced that men suffer more with their colds than women. I usually lose about three weeks, whereas Lady M is back on her feet after 7 days.

  10. I only know two people who have had colds since Covid-19 raised its head. Presumably masks have kept us safe. However both had colds that were nastier than usual.

    1. Perhaps during the intervening period the cold virus has managed to increase its potency. It does seem rather nasty.

  11. Sorry you have been hit so hard with such a rotten cold. Hope you are fully recovered soon. Cold virus is clearly jealous the other virus is getting all the press and has upped its game. :(

  12. We are very pleased to read that you are recovering, and sorry to know you had been overtaken by a racing cold. (We had noted your break, the last message being that P was ill again, and feared nursing duties had done for you.) We hope recovery for both of you is swift and complete. F & Mr T

  13. My last cold knocked me sideways too. It must be going around the world, evidently.
