Poor P has been poorly for the past few days, and I am not much use as a nurse. On Thursday he became ill with some sort of stomach bug - thank goodness this rental property has two bathrooms!
It didn't seem worth cooking a meal that evening just for me so he went to bed early with a hot water bottle and I had a poached egg on toast and scrolled through the few TV channels on Freeview that had programmes available with subtitles.
On Friday he was a little better but couldn't keep much down and I was starting to feel a little bit iffy too, although thankfully that hasn't developed into anything.
This morning - Saturday - started off really wet and windy but I decided to walk into town to get a carton of milk and the Saturday Telegraph, which we like for the crosswords and the TV guide. P said I should drive but I insisted that I would be OK with my boots, raincoat and the plastic see-through dome umbrella that I used when I was commuting to work. Ha! The wind was so strong that the spokes of the umbrella bent and, after seven years of trouble-free wear, my boots have now sprung a leak so, by the time I reached home, my socks were sodden and my feet soaking wet.
After drying off and changing into warm clothes I felt that comfort food was required for tonight so I spent the afternoon making a "proper" cottage pie. It was pretty good and even P managed to eat a respectable sized portion.. He seems to be recovering - thank goodness as I am certainly no good as a nurse.
Poor P and poor Jaycee's boots. Like my late mother use to say: " What do you do when your shoes let water in?" Time to go shopping for new boots me thinks.
ReplyDeleteP wants to try to find where they are leaking and fix them with some sort of sealant. Good luck with that.
DeleteOoh, that's miserable! I once had to throw away a pair of shoes when caught in a downpour. They were well used so no big loss!
ReplyDeleteMy boots are only seven years old, they look good and are very comfortable. I don't know if I can find anything that I like as much as these.
DeleteThere's a rather eerie warm wind blowing here this morning. I wonder what it has in store for us? I suspect my brolly might be needed.
ReplyDeleteGood luck!
DeleteSometimes the best way to nurse is just to leave them alone to sleep and wallow. My theory anyway.
ReplyDeleteGlad you didn't catch it.
That's what I did in the end Linda. He wallows really well.
DeleteGlad to read you didn't succumb to the lurgy, but that stint in the rain might have fone for you. Mr T prescribes hot toddies several per day for at least a week.
ReplyDeleteThe cottage pie seems to have done the trick.
DeleteI am married to a nurse and know a lot about nurses. To be a good nurse you should wear fishnet stockings and stiletto heels and your very short uniform should be made from white PVC.
ReplyDeleteOh well, in that case I qualify, YP.
DeleteHope that P is fully recovered soon. Must admit, when I am ill I want to be left alone. My DH, on the other hand, seems to need constant attention. Not my strong suit.
ReplyDeleteSorry about the boots. Hope P can plug the leak, so to speak. Dislike breaking in new boots. Been a long time since I was caught out in the rain. Unfortunately, I was wearing wool bell-bottom (told you it was long time ago) trousers--the length of which grew six inches after being sodden. No saving them.
Wool bell-bottoms?? Crikey, that was a long time ago!
Delete1971 :)
DeleteGlad P is recovering and you feel fine.
ReplyDeleteThanks Ellen.
DeleteWe were just talking about bell bottoms here, about how it was when we were young. If those bottoms got wet, they were heavy enough that they didn't stay up on our non-existent hips. As you say, this was a looooooooonnngg time ago. I'd have no trouble keeping my pants up now. :)
ReplyDeleteWe mend boots. It can be done.
Hope you stay well and that the Mr. gets well.
Ob yes. I have a lovely ring of blubber around my middle to stop my trousers from falling down!
DeleteMr P is certainly on the mend now. He is back to his usual Grumpy self, thank goodness.
Hope you're still feeling well. There's nothing worse than wet feet!

It was miserable Vronni xxx
DeleteHope Mr P is in fine form again and that you are too.
ReplyDeleteThank you Weaver. He seems to have recovered now and so far I have not caught anything nasty. We are off later to the drop-in flu clinic so need to be fit for that!
DeleteOh dear …… quite a few catastrophes …. Hope P is on the mend now. Shopping for a new umbrella and boots I think ! XXXX

ReplyDeleteNew boots and umbrella?? P already has his roll of sticky tape and glue ready! XXX
DeleteHahaha …. Resourceful !!! XXXX
DeleteI feel for you with a leaky boot, walking in wet socks is a major pain. And there are no boots as comfy as that old pair.
ReplyDeleteThey are my favourite boots. They are no longer available to buy as that style is noonger made 😌
