Typical December Day

... weather wise anyway.

Woke up late this morning after a restless night.  The "suspect" mole on  my leg was itching like mad and keeping me awake.  Much as I dread scalpels and blood I just want the thing gone now.

It was blowing a hoolie outside with horizontal rain so we gave up on the walk into town and got the car out instead for the 3 minute trip to the Co-op store for the Saturday newspaper and some fresh fruit.

Although it has now stopped raining it is still windy and a sharp overnight frost with icy roads is forecast.

I have  a beef stew bubbling in the slow cooker,  some olive sourdough bread warming and the Croft Particular is about to be opened.

Tomorrow is another day as someone once said. (Wasn't that connected with wind too?).

  1. Beef stew is what you need on a cold winters day. We have just had a couple of glasses of Prosecco and it's beef curry for tea,

  2. I love using the slow cooker on chilly days. The house smells so good and makes me feel warm! It is chilly here but the sun is out so I will make myself take a walk! Hope you get sunshine tomorrow!

  3. Croft Particular? Oh dear! I had imagined that you and his lordship would consistently opt for Croft Original. See ad.:-

  4. Yes - I am an Original too - have a bottle for Christmas Day and a box of my favourite chocs.

  5. It took me while - and a comment above - to work out what Croft Particular was. But then I don't drink anymore... oh, what a fogey I'm becoming...

  6. It was pouring here early yesterday morning, then stopped in time for Dog-walking, leaving a nice sunny day. Exactly how it should be!

  7. Your menu sounds very comforting. The house must smell marvellous . The sun came out here after a day of rain. No icy temps yet.

  8. That's real cold weather comfort food.
16ºC, deep blue skies and sunshine here this morning, but the wind is practically gale force, so no dog walk yet. One of those days when it looks lovely out, but feels much better indoors! Yesterday I met a friend for a late morning coffee and early lunch, and we sat outdoors enjoying the warmth from the sun. People sunbathing on the beach and a few paddle boarders out too. When I got back to the car the thermometer read 30º!

  9. Made a huge pot of chicken stew/soup (stoup?) on Thursday--a v. chilly day (stove top, not slow cooker). It made the house smell good, too. Also, provides a vast number of leftover dinners--so less cooking in the long run. My kind of meal.
