Send Peregrine out there with a sweeping brush and a garden rake while you watch on from the church house. Tell him that if he misses any leaves, there'll be no bones and gristle in his gruel this evening.
Our leaves get raked out to the street curb so the city can come around and vacuum them up with a large truck. I like your description of a "leafy duvet". Sweet, JayCee!
We have a querulous neighbor who thinks that we should rake his yard if any leaves from our trees or any other trees in the entire neighborhood end up in his yard due to the wind. Umm. No.
As much as I love the trees that surround our garden, they do give us a lot of work ...... there is something falling from them in every season. In the Spring we get thousands of fluffy catkins from the silver birch, then we get those helicopter things , then tiny fir cones from the Alder we planted after The Great Storm of 87 and then they all drop their leaves in Autumn so we are forever clearing up !!!! I wouldn't be without them though. XXXX
Most of the leaves I have around are from bougainvillea and other climbers in the garden and they are a real nuisance. Seems you can't have beauty without a little inconvenience. The most annoying leaves and dead flowers are the ones from next door!
I do not know where you live, but the beauty of trees with leaves, as opposed to my trees of pine, are worth the effort of raking. Although, my husband said the beauty of moving into the pinyons and juniper trees was "no more raking!"
Although I am quite used to talking to myself, any comments on my posts are very welcome, provided they are not abusive. I do reply to them so please check back. It's good to talk (!)

Thanks Ellen. P sweeps up all our leaves and puts them into a compost bin to make a leaf mould mulch for next year. Good for the soil.

Perhaps he should erect a roof over his garden if he doesn't like leaves?
DeleteRaking leaves is ok but the acorns are a bit more of a challenge.
ReplyDeleteOh yes, they are everywhere.
DeleteThis year seems to be a good one for acorns.....never seen so many on the ground!
DeleteIt is good that Lord P keeps up with the. If you get behind, they begin to build up and you wind up with the Great Barrier Leaf.
ReplyDelete*them
Delete😆 you're right. One morning we opened the front door to find them in a huge pile in the porch. We had to fight our way through.
DeleteI watched a road sweeper trying to sweep them all up yesterday. It seemed like a pointless exercise!
ReplyDeleteYep. As fast as you sweep them up more are falling behind you.
