Yet Another Day Out

We are becoming very adventurous these days. Just one exciting outing after another.

P had an early appointment this morning at the GP surgery for his Over-70s pneumonia and shingles jabs. One in each arm to spread the discomfort.  He was home in plenty of time for us to catch the 9:40 Douglas bound bus at the end of the road for a little trip to the Big City.

Due to our various pre-arranged appointments we knew that we would not get time for lunch so when we arrived we decided to go for brunch in The Caff, opposite the bus station.  A basic, no-frills place frequented by all different types of clientele - tradesmen, men in suits, young mums with tots and OAP wrinklies like us.

We went for the Budget Breakfast - egg, bacon, sausage, tomato, hash browns and thick toast with a mug of good, strong coffee, all for £5.95 each.

Suitably fortified we did our errands before my allocated appointment at the Vaccination Hub for my Autumn Booster jab at 12:15.  I arrived a little early expecting the usual long queues. I was the only patient there.  Literally, nobody else waiting either to be checked-in or in the jabbing cubicles. Amazing.  I was in and out in about three minutes. P was sitting on the bench in the shopping centre across the road and was quite surprised to see me out so soon.

We had plenty of time before his appointment at 1 p.m. at the sports injury clinic so we had a slow walk up the road and thought we would sit in the waiting room until he was due in. The physio heard us chatting outside and called us through as he had no other client at that time. P had his treatment and we were back out waiting at the bus stop in time for the 1:15 bus home.

We both dozed off on the journey.

Two old fogies, exhausted by all that excitement.

  1. When I went to Blighty in August we went in Wetherspoons every day for a Large English breakfast for 5.95. You got two of everything and washed it down with a pint of Doombar bitter for 2.19. It was great value.

  3. We'd happily settle for a day out like that right now - even with the jabs thrown in. F

  4. Medicine can be extremely interesting, and you get all that individual personal attention too.

    1. I certainly got personal attention today. A whole Vaccination Hub full of staff just for little old me.

  5. Friends and I went to an "All Day Breakfast" joint after our Craft club on Monday. Although it was lunch time we enjoyed what must be the equivalent of the full English breakfast for a good chunk of $20! I think yours was a better deal although I took home the leftovers for dinner.

    1. There were no leftovers on our plates, although I did pass my hash browns on to P as it was too much for me.

  7. I don't like the term "jabbing cubicles". It sounds like a place you go to get punched by a young boxer practising his jabs. I wouldn't like that. By the way, when it comes to fun , you and Lord Peregrine appear to live on the wild side!

    1. My arm certainly feels as though it has been punched quite hard by a boxer.

  8. For my past 10 or so visits, your 'revolvermap' tells me I'm in Brighton. I think it must be broken, it never used to say that.

    1. I am shown as " Maidstone" but I am in fact in Hertfordshire! I think it used to say "St. Albans" which is only 5 miles away, but Maidstone is nowhere near here! My son tried to explain it to me once, but I didn't really get it!!

    2. Perhaps it is not too good with UK geography.

  9. Isn't it great when you arrive for an appointment and can walk straight in. It's happened to us when we had our covid jabs. Meanwhile in Athens they waited in lines for hours.
That budget breakfast was the best, all round!

  10. My very first Covid jab was the same as your latest ones. There was literally just the nurse and security guard in the building - waiting for me. In and out in less than five minutes. I've only had a second Covid shot but no third.
You certainly had a fun day out in the big city - no wonder you were exhausted afterwards.
A trip to the local town (identified correctly by your revolving globe) just about wears me out and it's less than ten minutes straight downhill all the way! Everywhere is straight downhill from here, it's the coming back uphill that's a bit of a hike. I've only ever walked it on a couple of occasions and had a dog to pull me up the worst bits!

    1. Last week they held walk in clinics and I am told the queue was halfway down the street, taking an hour or so to get jabbed.. I was lucky to be in the over 65 group and allowed to book a slot. Although I don't understand why there was nobody else there.

The map works fine for my location - I love to see the "Naperville" sign. It should have a large sign for you on the IoM! I enjoy being your global blog friend! :)
