Heat Holders

It became apparent yesterday whilst out shopping that my winter gloves are not up to the job at the moment.  With temperatures barely above zero my fingers were in danger of dropping off.

I popped into the local menswear shop and bought myself some proper thermal gloves. The men's size Small is admittedly a little large for me but these are very warm and snuggly.

Elfie found his own way to keep warm last night ...

  1. Oh dear, Elfie has started on the booze a bit early. Perhaps a voucher for AA classes might be an idea for his Christmas present? Hope he leaves something for you and P!
Years ago I remember the warmest gloves I ever had were a pair of sheepskin lined suede mittens. Along with a sheepskin lined suede coat, they kept me warm in the coldest winters. Totally unacceptable these days, of course. I'd like a Puffa jacket, but look puffa-ed enough without the added padding!

    1. In these temperatures I don't care what I look like provided I don't freeze!

  2. It really is surprising how few gloves actually keep hands warm in dire temperatures, especially if there is a stiff wind blowing. Kudos on your purchase.

    1. The ladies gloves are just not warm enough.- and they are more expensive!

  3. Is that a Scottish Malt in the box at the back of your drinks cabinet JayCee? If I was Elfie I would be going for that tonight when you are fast asleep in the land of Nod. He goes to sleep in the land of Noddy.

    1. It could be, Dave. Neither of us drink whisky/whiskey but I think P was given a bottle some years back as a gift. Still unopened!

    2. It sounds like a perfect regifting opportunity to me, JayCee. Dave? What would you like to find under the tree on Christmas morning.

    3. I think most men would like a nice bottle for Christmas Debby. It's a lot better than a jumper.

  4. Whisky is Scottish and whiskey is Irish me thinks. Me being a Dalwhinnie connoisseur.

  5. So does Elfie wake up next to empty bottles, burping sour burps and being all surly? Or don't Elfies get hang overs?

  6. Thermal gloves sound seriously warm. Can't imagine being that frozen. May come this winter though. Mother Nature is full of surprises. Keep Elfie company with a glass or two of your finest malt. Known to warm the cockles of your heart. I can imagine it reaches down to your fingers and toes

    1. Today's top temperature was 3C so my new gloves were very welcome.
I may have to develop a taste for a fine malt.

  7. The Elf sure gets around. He would be frustrated finding booze in our place - it's here but he would have to dig around in the Russian/NATO cupboard to find it and deal with cake mixers and pressure cookers in the process. Let us know how well those gloves work. My favs have always been thinsulate short finger gloves with a pullover mitten top. Layers for hands.

  8. I need socks, when we came from France in September we packed the minimum, with no warm socks.

    1. I recommend the Heat Holders brand for thermal socks. You can order online too.

  9. Looking at the photo I thought there were some ‘hand heaters’ inside the gloves. I steer clear of days where I need to be wrapped up like that. All that’s going on while we’re wintering in Qld

  10. What a good idea JayCee ..... I cleared up tons of leaves yesterday { just before everywhere was covered in the thickest snow I've seen for years ! } My hands were freezing, even with gardening gloves on. I could have done with a pair of heat holders. I've seen that naughty elf on social media ..... he draws glasses and a moustache on peoples faces when they are asleep so be alert !!!! XXXX

  11. If "Small" is too big for you then perhaps you should have bought "Elfin" instead.

    1. At least I have room inside to wear a second pair of gloves for extra warmth.

  13. Oh Elfie - not already, surely?

I hope the gloves keep your hands warm. The warmest ones I have are animal print ones in a fleecey type material and a felted wool pair with coloured embroidery on the back. The wool ones aren't warm enough nor are my leather/pleather gloves and of course, sod's law, I have lots of these types of gloves!
